Library Design Project

As part of our redesigning project of our school library, David Crosby (from Touch Design group) led a workshop with our Year 6 Mathematicians enrichment group to show how he would create scaled drawings and designs for clients and the steps involved from start to completion.

After looking at the precision and detail involved in creating these drawings, the group worked with David’s help to create a scaled drawing of the library with its complex shape of a scale of 1:20.

Seaton Jurassic Visit - Tuesday 6th November

What a fantastic trip unit 3 had at Seaton Jurassic!  

During the day we participated in three activities. One of the activities we used our map skills to find and piece together a skeleton jigsaw. We worked as a team to achieve this. We then used our reading VIPER skills to to discuss what facts we could retrieve from the picture of the fossil.  Secondly, we learnt about the life of Mary Anning and how she became a famous paleontologist. From this we learnt what would and wouldn’t make a fossil after millions of years. After that, we created our own fossil imprint which we were lucky enough to take home. The final activity, we were given a mission to collect stamps and to answer as many questions about fossils. 

If you want to get creative at home, the children could teach you how to make a trace fossil by using some clay and finding a suitable piece of material outside to imprint. 

Unit 3 started the year with a trip to the beach as archaeologists - this has fed into our project based learning based on our topic Dinosaurs. Unit 3 were able to showcase their learning in our Dino Diner.

Our English unit has been focusing on the video Titanium. The children found their classrooms turned upside down and had to investigate how this happened and the feelings this would lead to. The children have produced some brilliant writing linked to this.
