Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ Term 1 2023

Year 1

Year 1 have had a fantastic first half term and have settled in really well! In History we have been focusing on toys from the past, where we went to Dawlish museum and got to view and play with some old toys. We discovered that most toys from the past were made from wood and metal. We also became toy makers where we made our own ball and cup, peg doll and thaumatrope. In PE, we have been developing our throwing and catching skills, where we have played mini games. In dance, we were very creative and made our own dance routines. In maths, we have been focusing on numbers up to 20, where we have been subitising within 5, learning the composition of numbers to 10, comparing numbers to 10 and we have been doubling numbers. In writing we have been writing our own short stories focusing on: The Gingerbread man, The enormous Turnip and The three little pigs. We have been focusing on starting our sentences with 'First, Then, Next and Finally.' We have been so impressed with their work so far- well done everyone!

Year 2

We've had such a brilliant start to the year in Year 2 and it is lovely to see how much the children are enjoying their learning. In English we've been acting and writing the story of Hansel and Gretel and more recently we've created our own potions linked to the book 'A Little Book of Spells'. In Maths, we have been focusing on numbers up to 20, using our First, Next, Then stories we have added together three addends and used counters to prove our solutions. The children then went on to add three one-digit numbers by finding two addends that total 10 first.

In PE we have been working on low and high balances using equipment, and moving from one balance to another smoothly. We have added jumps and rolls to the sequence of moves as well
