Life Skills - Sainsburys Visit
Fri 13 Oct 2017Cooking Skills.
Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th October
-
We went to our local Sainsbury’s store.
-
First, we were met and taken through the store to a room at the back, we were given pizza bases and we put on the toppings of our choice, Sainsbury’s made sure that everyone was catered for and we had pizzas toppings suitable for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.
-
We watched as the pizzas were put into the hot ovens.
-
Next we were able to go to the storage area; we saw the freezers, fridges and learnt why they were used, we looked inside a lorry that had just completed its delivery.
-
Then we went to the bakery, we were told how bread and bread rolls are made, we all had a small piece of dough and we all got to smell the yeast.
-
We moved on to the butchery counter, the butcher told us lots of interesting things about all the meat items on sale. He was also in charge of the fish counter and knew lots about the different fish and where were caught.
-
Finally we collected our cooked pizzas and went back to the room to eat them.

KS1 ATHLETICS FESTIVAL 2017
Thu 22 Jun 2017Six primary schools from across the Dawlish Learning Partnership competed in an Athletics festival on the morning of 21st June 2017.
The event was organised by the Dartmoor School Sport Partnership and held at the beautiful grounds of Stover School.
The weather was wall to wall sunshine with temperatures reaching twenty nine degrees! However, despite the heat, KS1 pupils participated enthusiastically in the 6 events laid on for them, which included Speed Bounce, Vortex throwing event, team hurdles relay, team standing broad jump, team sprint relay and target throwing. To finish a great morning, all pupils then took part in the grand finale of a Parlauff type relay.
The key focus of the morning was fun and participation, however there was a competition element throughout to see which school performed the best on each station. The winning schools on each station were:
Speed Bounce: Kenton Primary School, with Westcliff Primary Academy coming a very close 2nd!
Vortex throw: Gatehouse ACE Academy, with Kenn Primary School coming a very close 2nd.
Team Hurdles relay:Gatehouse ACE Academy
Standing team long jump: Cockwood Primary School
Team sprint relay: Exminster Primary School
Target throwing: Exminster Primary School
Parlauff Relay:Gatehouse ACE Academy
A special thanks to the leaders from Coombeshead Community College who led each of the 6 stations. They showed exemplary leadership skills, explaining and demonstrating their events clearly and supporting and encouraging the pupils to perform of their best.
The next event the Dartmoor School Sport Partnership will be running is the KS2 Dawlish Athletics Tournament on Monday 26th July 2017 at Teignmouth Community School.

DLP Tag Rugby Festival
Fri 26 May 2017Four schools from across the Dawlish Learning Partnership joined together for a Tag Rugby Festival. Tag Rugby is a safe, fun and exciting form of non-contact rugby as there are no scrums, line-outs or tackling allowed.
On a glorious Wednesday afternoon, children from Kenn & Kenton Primary Schools along with Gatehouse ACE Academy and Westcliff Primary Academy met at Westcliff’s playing field to play a number of matches.
As it was a fun festival event, there was no overall winning team but everyone went away with a certificate for taking part and representing their school.
Thanks to all the staff and parents who made this event possible, in particular Mr Webb for leading the afternoon.
A great time was had by all.
