  • Flu Immunisation

    Thu 12 Sep 2019

    Dear Parent/Guardian

Your child’s annual flu vaccination is now due

The Immunisation Team will shortly be offering the Flu vaccination to all Primary school children from Reception to Year 6 (and up to 18 years in Special Schools). Delivery of the programme will run from October - December 2019 across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

This vaccination programme is recommended to help to protect your child against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and sometimes causes serious complications. Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable friends and family by preventing the spread of flu.

The vaccination is free and recommended for young children, and will be given by a quick and simple spray up the nose. Even if your child had it last year, it is recommended to have the flu vaccine again this year.

In order to provide electronic consent for your child’s Flu vaccination, please access the secure consent portal via the link below and follow the online instructions.

We request that consent (or refusal) is provided electronically before 27th October 2019.

This is to ensure our nurses have sufficient time to clinically process the information prior to the school visit.

Information to assist you in completing the electronic consent is detailed on the consent portal including FAQ’s, patient information and contact details should you wish to speak to one of the school Immunisation Nurses regarding the nasal vaccination.

If you have any difficultly completing the form or do not have electronic access, please contact a member of our team.

Improving early communication, language and literacy development is a key priority for the government and a cornerstone of building a country that works for everyone. Some of the poorest children in the UK start school months behind their peers and the gap can grow through their school years. Children with poor vocabulary skills at age five may be up to twice as likely to be unemployed in their 30s. In July 2018, the Secretary of State for Education announced the government’s ambition to halve in ten years the proportion of children who finish reception year without the communication, language and literacy skills they need to thrive. As a result, the Department for Education is launching Hungry Little Minds – a new three-year campaign to encourage parents to engage in activities that support their child’s early learning and help set them up for school and beyond.
