  • Dartmoor School Sports Partnership Year 3 & 4 High 5 Netball Festival

    Wed 18 Oct 2017

On Friday 13t October an excitable bunch of Year 3 & 4 pupils from Westcliff, Kenn and Kenton Primary Schools joined together for an afternoon of High 5 netball. The session was organised and led by Becky Mason from the Dartmoor School Sport Partnership along with five brilliant Year 8 Sports Leaders form Dawlish Community College.

First the pupils played some fun warm up drills before practising and developing their netball skills including correct ‘footwork’, passing, dodging, attacking and defending. After this the positions and rules of the game were explored and the pupils split into three mixed teams to play lots of mini matches. On every match the pupils rotated their position on the court so they got the full High 5 experience!

It was fantastic to see how well the pupils worked collaboratively together and how much their skills, knowledge and understanding of the game developed during the afternoon.

Many thanks to Hannah Dempsey, Head of PE at Dawlish Community College for supporting the afternoon with her time, leaders and the astro space and to Jo Hussain for the great photos.

  • Life Skills - Sainsburys Visit

    Fri 13 Oct 2017

    Cooking Skills.

    Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th October

    • We went to our local Sainsbury’s store.

    • First, we were met and taken through the store to a room at the back, we were given pizza bases and we put on the toppings of our choice, Sainsbury’s made sure that everyone was catered for and we had pizzas toppings suitable for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.

    • We watched as the pizzas were put into the hot ovens.

    • Next we were able to go to the storage area; we saw the freezers, fridges and learnt why they were used, we looked inside a lorry that had just completed its delivery.

    • Then we went to the bakery, we were told how bread and bread rolls are made, we all had a small piece of dough and we all got to smell the yeast.

    • We moved on to the butchery counter, the butcher told us lots of interesting things about all the meat items on sale. He was also in charge of the fish counter and knew lots about the different fish and where were caught.

    • Finally we collected our cooked pizzas and went back to the room to eat them.

  • Harvest Donations

    Tue 10 Oct 2017

We helped St Petrock’s this Harvest Festival

On Monday 2nd October we held our Harvest Assembly.  We collected items for a Homeless Charity in Exeter.

The charity provide a homeless resource centre where people who find themselves homeless can go and have something to eat, a shower and wash their clothes – they do not provide shelter but are able to help put people on the right track with advice and support. To find out more about the charity visit: www.stpetrocks.org.uk

We are very grateful for the very generous donations received.  A small donation from each child has meant help for many.

  • Warburtons School Visit

    Mon 09 Oct 2017
On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October, Warburtons School Visitor programme came to Westcliff Primary Academy.  They worked with children in years 2 and 6 covering healthy eating, getting ready to cook and a hands-on food activity.  The children all enjoyed the experience and we are extremely grateful to Warburtons for being selected to take part.
