Pastoral Support

Thank you for coming along to the Parent Coffee Morning today. We are glad we could share with you what our Pastoral Team do and how they can support you and your child.

Summer Term-Unit 1

This term we have been learning about our emotions, we have been exploring what makes us feel that way. We have also been exploring our strengths and talking about what we are good at.

This term we have been exploring our emotions. We have been discussing our actions and making good choices. We have worked as a team with our activities.

During Nurture, we have been exploring our emotions. We have taken part in activities and discussions about how and why we feel certain ways. We have played games and worked in teams to help develop our confidence with speaking in a group.

We have enjoyed our Nurture sessions in Unit 3 this term. We have been working together in small groups to understand our emotions. We have played games to help us to understand what it feels like to win and lose. We have had lots of good discussion about how we feel and certain times and events. We have explored feeling Happy, Sad, Angry and Scared.

Spring Term-Unit 2

This term, we have been learning about a variety of topics. We have been looking at emotions, our qualities and strengths as well as working as a team. We have taken part in many activities and games to develop our confidence in talking in a group.

During our Unit 1 Nurture sessions, we have been focusing on our emotions. We have learnt to recognise different emotions and how re-react to those feelings. We have taken part in lots of games, discussions and crafts to help us learn. One of our favourite games has been the 'emotions corner game', Miss Cridge describes a situation and we decide how that makes us feel and we run to the corner of which that emotion is. We also enjoyed making different faces and our friends had to guess the emotion.

On Thursday 1st February, children from our unit 2 Nurture and Life Skills group went to visit Pizza Express Torquay.

We learnt about how Pizza Express started, what ingredients go into making their pizzas and what the secret ingredient is.

We all got to make our own pizza to take home, we also tasted lots of different toppings.

During unit 3 Nurture we have been exploring our emotions and how to react appropriately to them.
We have enjoyed taking part in lots of outdoor activities, we have improved our school environment by planting flowers and clearing areas as we have worked as a team to do this and we have had to share ideas and listen to each other.

During unit 2 Nurture sessions we have been working on being able to recognise and express our emotions.

We have also been thinking about our qualities and strengths and sharing them with others.

During our unit 1 Nurture sessions, we have been working on our concentration and listening skills. We have also been taking part in activities to help us recognise and express our emotions.

We have fruit!

The children have worked hard again this week to weed around our fruit and vegetable plants.

Our fruit and veg is growing well

Our pumpkins have started to grow, we will soon plant these out in the garden.
Our tomatoes, sweetcorn, potatoes, peas, broad beans, runner beans, raspberries, pumpkins and carrots are all growing well.

The children are working really well as a team and doing a great job at looking after the garden.

Miss Cridge has sent in our evidence for our level three award.

.................................................................................................................................................

The children have been awarded their level two School Garden Award and are well on their way to earning level 3.

We are excited as over the next few weeks we can start to sow more seeds.

In our greenhouse, we have potatoes chitting, sweetcorn and beans starting to grow.

Our older children are doing a great job with preparing the ground ready to plant out and we have all been learning about how and what to compost.

.................................................................................................................................................

Today we planted our sweetcorn, we will keep this in the greenhouse until it is warm enough to put outside.

This week the children hung their bird feeders, had a go at digging the soil and added more to the bug hotel.

Preparing the garden

We have had some very wet weather the last couple of week so we decided to have gardening club inside.

We made some bird cakes to feed our Robin friends!

The children enjoyed making them and we had a good discussion about why we need to put bird food out at this time of year.

Bird cakes

Today we made a start on making our Bug Hotel. The children were pleased to have a little Robin come and visit!

The children have some great plans of what they would like to grow this year, we look forward to sharing our updates with you.
